Jon Snow rarely had much cause to do a jaunty dance in Game of Thrones, but it turns out that the actor who portrayed him, Kit Harington, is capable of some serious dad-dancing!

The English actor celebrated the birth of his son with his wife and fellow Game of Thrones star, Rose Leslie, six months ago, and he revealed during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week that he dances for his baby.

When Jimmy asked Kit what he does to make his baby laugh, he responded: “I’d do anything. I think Rose is the one who he seems to respect and love and, like, she’s his safe place.

“I just seem to be sheer entertainment. Do you know what I mean? And not even very good entertainment, just entertainment.”

The actor explained that he attempts to amuse his child with dance moves. “I used to be a good dancer,” he claimed. “But I put him in his little chair and he likes dancing to The Beatles. But he only likes it if I do these exaggerated moves, so I have to kind of really… I’ve worked out where the dad dance comes from!”

He then demonstrated his moves, which included some impressive leg-kicking and finger guns. You can see them in the below video, at the four-minute mark.

Sitting down again to continue chatting to Jimmy Fallon, Kit said, “But now, I realise I go back onto the dance floor and I’ll dance like that. I've lost the old moves entirely. And then, in the future, I know he’s going to mock me about it and I’ll be like, ‘This is your fault.’”

Kit also spoke about appearing in the upcoming Marvel Eternals movie, in which he plays Dane Whitman, who has the alter ego of Black Knight. Keeping fairly tight-lipped about the film, including whether Harry Styles will make an appearance in it, he said, “I seem to have segued from a TV show where I can’t tell you anything onto a movie where I can’t tell you anything!”

The Game of Thrones star was able to tell the audience something about his character in Eternals though. “He has a sword, and rides a horse and I was like, ‘I know this guy. I’ve been this guy.’” he joked. “But actually he’s quite different, so it’s exciting.”

In celebration of The Tonight Show’s 1,500 episode, Kit also, somewhat bizarrely, sat at the piano to perform Train’s 2001 song, Drops of Jupiter.

The idea was dreamt up by the show's production team years ago, for a spot called Straight Up Goes For It.

“The sketch has been our white whale, we’ve been pitching it for years,” Jimmy Fallon said.

“We finally have someone who has the guts to do it. He doesn’t play the piano, by the way, and he doesn’t even really know how to sing, but he’s doing it because he’s cool, and he’s funny and he gets it!”
