Get ready for the return of Home Alone, ya filthy animals, because the popular film franchise is being rebooted in time for Christmas!

Disney+ has announced that a new film, entitled Home Sweet Home Alone, will land on its streaming platform in November. It is expected that it will be the first in a series of new films in the relaunched franchise.

Home Sweet Home Alone boasts an impressive cast, with young Archie Yates as its protagonist. You may remember Archie as Jojo’s best friend Yorki in Jojo Rabbit. Also starring in Home Sweet Home Alone will be Ellie Kemper from The American Office, Catastrophe’s Rob Delaney, and Aisling Bea from This Way Up. Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons, and Aly Maki are amongst the cast as well.

The film is written by Saturday Night Live’s Streeter Seidell and Mikey Day, and is based on John Hughes’ original screenplay of the first Home Alone film.

The original movie came out in 1990, and turned Macaulay Culkin into a massive star. There were subsequently three sequels and a TV movie, meaning that this new version will be the sixth Home Alone movie overall.

Disney+ has teased the release of the film by sharing images on its social media channels of some of the cast holding up the title of the film.

It won’t come as a huge surprise that Home Sweet Home Alone’s narrative focuses on a child, Max Mercer (played by Yates), who is left at home by mistake while the rest of his family go to Japan for the Christmas holidays.

In a plot which isn’t a massive departure from the 1990 film, a crime-loving married couple set their sights on the Mercer’s family home, meaning that Max has to do whatever he can to stop the thieves. We imagine that plenty of hijinks and full-on chaos will ensue, and, to quote Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister, the film will leave us “thirsty for more” from the franchise.

Home Sweet Home Alone will be available to stream on Disney+ from November 12th.
