Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed a baby girl into the world at the weekend. The Queen's granddaughter gave birth to her first child on Saturday, weighing 6lb 2oz, and it seems that the new-born will be given a royal title. However, the title will not come from the British side of the family, but rather from her Italian husband's side.

As reported by People, Princess Beatrice’s husband is a descendant of the Italian royal House of Savoy. He is a count, which makes his wife a countess, and their daughter automatically becomes a Contessa or Nobile Donna (Noble Woman) .

Beatrice didn’t receive a royal title from the Queen, as is tradition on wedding days. For instance, Prince Harry was given a Dukedom when he married Meghan Markle, officially making them the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, while Prince William and Kate Middleton are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Although Beatrice and her sister Eugenie retained their royal status, they didn’t receive titles. This means that their children also don’t get royal titles. However, while Princess Eugenie's son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, doesn’t have a title to his name, Beatrice’s new baby girl will have, through the Italian side of her family.

If you’re wondering why, as of this morning (21st September) the name of the latest addition to the Royal Family has not yet been announced, it isn’t especially unusual for there to be a delay in telling the world the name of a new royal baby.

William and Kate didn't announce the names of their three children for several days after the births, and Charles and Diana waited a week before telling the world William's name. Meanwhile, Prince Charles’ name wasn't made public until a month after he was born.

Regarding what Beatrice will call her new baby girl, the bookies have made the name Sarah their favourite, after Beatrice's mother. Bookies think that Anna, Maria and Rosa are possibilities as well.
