Apple users are excited by a new collection of emojis included in the latest iPhone update.

Yesterday saw the release of Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 15. The update includes a number of exciting new features for Apple users across the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch products. iPhone users will be able to FaceTime with Android users and create group FaceTime calls with up to six users. Safari has gotten a flashy new redesign, as has the notifications tab.

Fun tech developments aside, many social media users are particularly excited about a brand new batch of emojis coming with this update. According to the Emojipedia blog, 217 new emojis have been approved for 2021. This new update puts the total number of emojis at 3,633, a sizable increase from the original 471 released back in 2008.

The new emojis include two new hearts, one on fire and one wrapped in a bandage. There are three new smileys, one surrounded by clouds, one exhaling, and one with loopy spiral eyes.

Alongside these there are a number of new couples emojis, all featuring a variety of skin tones, which emoji users were previously unable to change. There are also two new faces, both sporting beards.

A number of other emojis have been previewed as part of the upcoming Emoji 14.0 release. These are not yet confirmed, but feature some designs we may see coming to the emoji keyboard in the next year. These include several new hands with different skin tones, a man in a crown, and a pregnant man.

Emoji 14.0 also includes some more obscure items. There is a piece of coral, which according to Emojipedia is “partly to represent the effects of climate change”. There is also a disco ball, several beans, a troll, and a nest with eggs in it and one without. We’ll likely hear more about these emojis and which ones have been finalised later this year.
