With the new Bel-Air show set to air soon, its original star took to Instagram to perform an updated version of the much-loved Fresh Prince song from back in the day.

The new series might be a completely different entity to the 90s sitcom - it is an edgy drama as opposed to a fun comedy - but that didn’t stop Smith from helping to promote it by busting out the classic old song that we all know and love.

The clip is set to air as a commercial on US television on Super Bowl Sunday (13th February), which is the same day that the new series will start.

The minute-long clip shows the rapper and actor at home as he connects to a Zoom call. He is then joined remotely by musicians, including a beatboxer, Mariachi band, and accordion player as he raps his iconic lines.

Sharing the upcoming commercial with his 58.1 million Instagram followers, Smith wrote: “'No matter where in the world I travel, even the most remote countries, the one thing people always know me from is the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

He went on to explain: “Our new show #BelAir debuts Super Bowl Sunday on @PeacockTV y'all! Big shoutout to the mad talented musicians who helped us bring this thing to life!”

The reimagining of the hugely-popular Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will reintroduce us to the character Will, played by newcomer Jabari Banks, while Jimmy Akingbola plays housekeeper Geoffrey Thompson. Adrian Holmes and Cassandra Freeman will feature as Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv.

Bel-Air will follow Will as he embarks on his journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of the Bel-Air neighbourhood in Los Angeles.

This might sound delightfully familiar, but the new Peacock drama will take a completely different tone to the OG show, dealing with serious and heavy themes. However, it still involves Will Smith, who is an executive producer.

Meanwhile, Smith has been nominated for Best Actor in a Lead Role at the 94th Academy Awards in March. Check out the nominations here.
