It’s been all over the news this week that Channel 5 will be axing the beloved soap and now the big boss has revealed plans for ending the show.

Fans and cast alike have been left heartbroken at the news that Neighbours may no longer be on the air after Channel 5 plans to axe the show this summer.

Filming will be paused unless another UK broadcaster can be found, and if no one comes to the rescue, we might be saying goodbye to Ramsey Street after four decades of it being on the air.

In that devastating event, executive producer for the show, Jason Herbison, has revealed the plans he has for a possible ending to the show.

He said he wants it to be very nostalgic and open for a revival in the future. So there will be no catastrophic event that kills off the rest of the cast or destroys Ramsay Street (phew).

Speaking to Media Week, Herbison said: “We are very proud of everything Neighbours has achieved.

“We see the next few months as being a huge celebration for the show with a bit of everything for viewers.

“Any ending will be respectful of the past, the present and always open to a future.”

Even though Neighbours is set in Australia, the majority of its audience is in the UK, which is why it is essential a British broadcaster saves it.

Channel 5 was part-funding the production but despite the high viewing figures, the cost of producing the show became too high for the broadcaster to continue.

So, they announced they will only be airing episodes up until August.

Fans of the show aren’t the only ones outraged at the cancelling of the soap, as Neighbours stars are just as desperate for it to continue.

Former cast member Rob Mills has even gone to the Australian Government in the hopes they will step in and help.

Fingers crossed!

Neighbours currently airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK).
