First look at new documentary The Real Charlie Chaplin will blow your mind

Did anyone ever know the real comedy legend Charlie Chaplin? Now it's time to discover the truth about the iconic figure and his rags-to-riches story, while also battling some personal demons.

Featuring never-been-heard-before audio recordings, dramatic reconstructions and personal archive, the film focusses on the star's journey to fame and beyond 'from the slums of Victorian London to the heights of Hollywood superstardom, before his scandalous fall from grace'.

The official synopsis reads: "How did the costume for Charlie Chaplin's legendary Tramp character come to be? The Real Charlie Chaplin: Groundbreaking, controversial, outspoken and visionary.

"For decades he was the most famous man in the world – but who was the real Charlie Chaplin? Drawn from a remarkable archive of newly unearthed material, The Real Charlie Chaplin is a revealing and poignant portrait of Hollywood’s most iconic figure."

Director by Peter Middleton and James Spinney, and narrated by Pearl Mackie, she informs us that by 26 'he was more famous than any king, queen, emperor, philosopher, artist or religious figure'.

The eye-opening offering will be in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on 18th February 2022.
