The BBC drama Killing Eve came back to our screens this month with more developments for Eve and Villanelle’s relationship.
With the finale episode on the horizon, head writer Laura Neal has revealed what fans can expect as the series comes to an end for good.
Ahead of the finale, the most recent episode of the series provided us with a twist in Eve and Villanelle’s relationship that Neal said was “pivotal”.
The serial killer confessed her obsession with Eve, but despite her ‘love’, she still got arrested and Eve told her: “I should’ve done this when we first met.”
Speaking to TV Line, Neal said this was something Eve should have done in season 1.
She explained: “Eve has changed a lot since then, and we’re seeing this new Eve who finally understands Villanelle’s power over her and understands that if she lets that chaos in, then it can consume her.”
But, Neal says, by removing Villanelle from her life, it forces Eve to ask the question: “What is my life without Villanelle in it?”
Neal continued: “I don’t think Villanelle believed that Eve would do something like that.
“For Eve to do it and see it through, it’s such a huge betrayal of Villanelle, but it’s also a realization that perhaps her grip on Eve is slipping. And I think that’s very discombobulating for Villanelle.”
With all that in mind, the season finale, set to air on 10 April, is shaping up to be an interesting one.
Speaking about the last episode of the final series, Neal said: “I think fans can expect an exciting, thrilling, emotional, satisfying end to these two extraordinary characters’ journeys”.
Neal also reminded us that Eve’s actions are inching closer to the “shadowy people” at the top of The Twelve and hinted there is a good chance Eve won’t survive the mission.
She added: “I think we should be worried for her.
“She has destroyed everything, or has had those things in her life destroyed, and she can’t possibly go back there.”
Killing Eve continues on 19 March at 9:25pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
