One of the most controversial moments in football history will be dissected as part of a new Sky documentary - Super Greed: The Fight for Football.
The Sky Documentaries special, made by Fulwell 73 productions, will air on 21st March and tell the story of the most dramatic 48 hours in football in recent memory - the rise and rapid fall of the European Super League.
Super Greed will document the fiasco that made front page news all over the world, was discussed in Parliament and was angrily protested by fans at club stadia.
Described as ‘destroying the fabric of English football’, the European Super League was heavily criticised by fans and football authorities, and seen as a ‘power grab’ following a 'perfect storm' brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
12 of the most powerful clubs in world football took part in years of secret talks and backroom dealings, which culminated in a seismic late-night announcement.
Watch the trailer here:
Six Premier League clubs, made up of Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal were involved and fans quickly made their voices heard, protesting outside many of the grounds, including at Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford and The Emirates.
These dozen rivals were joining forces and breaking away from centuries of sporting tradition to launch a brand-new competition that would secure their club’s futures for decades to come.
The doc will explore how the creation of the Super League created a fury of opposition from the entire football world and collapsed in just 48 hours.
Super Greed: The Fight for Football tells the dramatic inside story of the doomed league through the eyes of those who helped bring it tumbling down.
Contributors include President of UEFA, Aleksander Čeferin, Chairman of Crystal Palace Football Club, Steve Parish, MP for Liverpool, West Derby, Ian Byrne and football writer, Nicky Bandini to name a few.
Producers of Super Greed, Fulwell 73, were also behind football documentaries The Class of 92 and Sunderland 'Til I Die, as well as One Direction 3D and Friends: The Reunion.
Super Greed: The Fight for Football is coming to Sky Documentaries and streaming service NOW at 10pm on 21 March 2022.
