The hit song We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Disney’s animated musical Encanto has dominated the music charts since it was released at the end of last year, becoming the highest-charting Disney Song ever.

Despite its success, however, the song was not eligible for a nomination at the Oscars this year, but they have decided to honour it in a different way.

The first live performance of We Don’t Talk About Bruno will take place at the 94th Academy Awards later this month.

The Academy announced the news on Twitter today, writing: “We don’t talk about Bruno…except at this year’s #Oscars! Catch the 94th Academy Awards hosted by @MoreReginaHall, @amyschumer, and @iamwandasykes LIVE Sunday, March 27 on @ABCNetwork!”

Encanto, written by Lin Manuel Miranda, has been nominated for Best Animated Film at the awards going up against films like Flee, Luca, The Mitchells vs. The Machines and Raya and The Last Dragon.

The song Dos Oruguitas from the film has also been nominated for Best Original Song and will compete against Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell’s No Time To Die from No Time To Die, Beyonce’s Be Alive from King Richard, Van Morrison’s Down To Joy from Belfast and Diane Warren’s Somehow You Do from Four Good Days.

Encanto has been a huge hit since is premiered on Disney+ in November last year generating an incredible $250 million at the box office after becoming popular with kids and adults alike.

The film follows the story of the magical Madrigal family who live in the mountains of Columbia in an enchanted house called the Encanto.

Every year, a child of the family is granted with a special power from the Encanto as soon as they turn of age- however, when it was Mirabel’s turn to get a power, nothing happened.

It turns out her magic comes from elsewhere after Mirabel becomes the family’s last hope when she discovers the magic of the Encanto is in danger.

Speaking about the nomination in Variety, Lin Manuel Miranda said: “I’m still proud of Dos Oruguitas.

“When those are the parameters, you have to pick the thing that best exemplifies the spirit of the movie, and it contains all of it inside this song – as opposed to a journey of a particular character. It’s the foundational story, but I’m not going to say it wasn’t hard [to choose].”

The Oscars will take place on 27 March.
