A documentary about Elon Musk is in the works for the BBC, examining “the billionaire’s incredible rise and the truth behind this modern icon.”

Created by production company 72 Films - the team behind Netflix's recent Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story -  and currently with the working title The Elon Musk Show, the series will premiere on BBC Two later this year. It will focus on the Tesla boss' journey to become the richest man on the planet, marking key moments in his career along the way.

As reported by Deadline, the three-episode documentary, directed by Marian Mohamed and Jeremy Llewellyn Jones, will feature “extensive and unseen archive from [Musk’s] time in Silicon Valley”.

The directors told Deadline: “There is no getting away from Elon Musk.”

They continued: “It’s always exciting to be documenting the biggest stories of the day, and our series will go inside Elon’s inner circle, examining the billionaire’s incredible rise and the truth behind this modern icon.”

BBC Commissioning Editor Simon Young said that Musk is “one of the most enigmatic and intriguing people in the world.”

Elon Musk is, of course, currently in the news as he has recently reached an agreement to buy Twitter for an astonishing $44 billion (£34.5 billion). Deadline reports that the upcoming documentary is being updated to include this massive and controversial development.

Earlier this week, Musk was invited to speak to MPs about his proposed acquisition of Twitter. The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee has said it is interested in Musk’s plans, particularly his intention to “roll out verification for all users”.

The Elon Musk Show will premiere on BBC Two later this year. An exact date is yet to be announced.
