Hollywood star Tom Cruise certainly knows how to make an entrance!

The big-screen icon arrived at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in San Diego in true Tom Cruise style - by literally flying in on a helicopter, much to the surprise of the star-studded crowd.

The helicopter had Cruise’s name and Top Gun: Maverick written on the side, so there was absolutely no confusion on who was touching down.

Cruise then elegantly exited the aircraft in a three-piece suit and tie, and of course, some classic aviator sunglasses.

With all the swagger of a true movie star, the actor then casually walked down the runway to join his Top Gun 2 co-stars Miles Teller,  Jennifer Connelly and Monica Barbaro for the red carpet.

While famous for his own stunts, Cruise told ET Online that he didn’t actually pilot the helicopter for the special ocassion, but does often glide through the skies in the same aircraft.

36 years after the original Top Gun film, fans are finally getting to see what is in store for Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell.

This new movie comes with a host of new faces too, including Miles as Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late friend Goose, as well as John Hamm and Ed Harris.

One person making a return is Val Kilmer as former rival Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, who personally recommends Maverick for this new mission.

The movie's release date has been rescheduled seven times, and was originally meant to come out in July 2019 but had to push that date back to allow more time to film the flight sequences.

After such a long wait, Top Gun: Maverick will finally fly into cinemas on May 27, 2022.
