Sky Atlantic has finally dropped a new teaser trailer for its Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, and it looks fiery.

In the trailer, we get a glimpse of Doctor Who star Matt Smith as the rightful heir to the iron throne, Prince Daemon Targaryen. Also appearing in the clip is Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, who picks his daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) to succeed him on the throne, much to Daemon’s horror.

Of course, there are scenes of dragons, King’s landing and some gruesome battles as family tensions reach a fever pitch over who has a claim to the infamous Iron Throne.

At the end, we hear the words: “History does not remember blood…it remembers names.”

You can watch the trailer below:

Also appearing in the teaser is Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower, who serves as the Hand to the King, and Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon who can be heard saying: “men would sooner put the realm to the torch than see a woman ascend to the Iron Throne.”

Olivia Cooke also pops up as Alicent Hightower, who is regarded as the most beautiful woman in the Seven Kingdoms.

House of the Dragon is set two centuries before the events of the original Game Of Thrones series, which ran on HBO from 2011 to 2019. This series is expected to show the beginning of the end of the Targaryen reign inWesteros, leading up to a civil war between family members and the death of dragons in the fantasy world.

Game of Thrones became one of the most popular drama series in the world at the time, but faced a lot of criticism following its final season. After this, it was announced that more spin-off shows based on George RR Martin’s fantasy novels would be in the works.

House of the Dragon will debut on Sky Atlantic and NOW on 22 August.
