A heartwarming news pupdate from Ukraine as a little dog becomes a national and international hero for sniffing out mines. Say ‘privyet’ to Patron (which means “ammo” in Ukrainian) a two year old jack russell terrier and minesweeping expert from a Ukrainian sapper squad called The Civil Protection Service.
It’s their job to locate and destroy mines that might harm civilians but more than that, to teach people, especially kids that might play in areas that are mortally dangerous, proper safety procedures that could save their legs or their lives.
Patron was given a medal for heroism by President Zelensky and his story has gone viral around the world, because let’s face it, we all love a pawsome story. Patron already has nearly a quarter of a million followers on his Instagram. Somebody needs to tell Patron about all the adoration and fuss around him, he fell asleep at the press conference to accept his medal.
But then he is a very busy dog with a very stressful job.

Good news for ‘ewe’ (that works better written down because it’s hard to verbally communicate the fact that I’ve spelt that ‘EWE’) from here in the UK as five sheep are rescued from a rooftop by the fire brigade!
Say hello to West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue who were this week faced with the rather unusual task of having to rescue a tiny herd of sheep who had leapt across a gap from a field onto the slate tiled roof of a house in Barnsley Road, Newmillerdam.
Every climbing enthusiast knows, it’s easier to climb up than to come down and it’s always the descent that gets you. These sheep became painfully aware of that fact and became sensationally stuck. Rescue officer Damian Cameron had to fashion a makeshift bridge out of planks to get the wolly wanderers back on terra firma. One of the sheep, who they nicknamed Rambo, clocked the bridge and persuaded the others to come over too. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s subsequent Twitter post said it all: “it wasn’t quite the night on the tiles those sheep were hoping for!” ;)
