Some literally mind blowing news from here in the UK and a space aged treatment for Parkinson’s disease which is reversing symptoms in patients that have had the ground breaking procedure. Say hello to the neuro-boffins of Oxford University who’ve pioneered this amazing implant.
It’s basically a small flat battery that’s screwed to the outside of the skull and it’s attached to tiny electrodes which are inserted in the subthalmic nuclei in the centre of the brain. They deliver tiny electrical impulses, mimicking our own neurological sparks to help stimulate the neurons to fire in the way they normally would if it wasn’t for the degenerative disease. 25 UK patients have taken part in the trial and it’s been a roaring success given the feedback of people like Tony Howells, who got the implant in 2019 and says “Before the operation I went for a walk on Boxing Day with my wife and I got 200 yards (182m) from the car...Then after the operation, which was 12 months later, I went on Boxing Day again and we went for 2.5 miles and we could’ve gone further. It was amazing”. While scientists say it’s not a cure, it’ll definitely make living with Parkinsons a lot easier for a lot of people

Amazing news from the USA as an antique hunter finds a priceless Roman Bust for sale in a second hand shop! Say hello to Laura Young, whose hobby is combing antique shops looking for bargains in the form of undervalued objects.
She was drawn to a classical marble bust in a second hand shop in Austin, the price tag on the chipped but still in pretty good nick bust was $35, so Laura bought it, took it home and started a several year quest to determine where it came from. She knew it was old, but quite how old came as a shock when Sothebys confirmed it was a Roman bust once owned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria, dating from the late 1st century BC to the early 1st century AD, and which vanished at the end of World War II.How it got to the USA is a mystery but it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out it was half inched by an american soldier who took it home and put it by the fireplace, unaware it was a precious national treasure. Laura has contacted the German authorities who further authenticated the bust, which is now on display at the San Antonio Museum Of Art until May 23rd when it heads back home. Pun very much intended :)
