Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid and Courteney Cox have been together for eight years, but the Friends star still hasn't got a clue what he's saying.

The Northern Irish musician told virginradio.co.uk and other press about his 'transatlantic' accent and joked: "Well, my partner is American and she hasn’t understood a word I’ve said in eight years. She hasn’t got a clue!

"I think what happens is when you’re from where I’m from and you do interviews with people who aren’t - people just look at you and go, what are you saying? I think the accent begins to soften, and I left home at 17."

Talking about being away from partner Courteney Cox during the pandemic, he said: "We were apart, as many people were from their families and from their loved ones. But we were able to stay as connected as we could and both of us kind of dove into being creative.

"Courteney made a show. She made a new product line. I went and made this record with Ed [Sheeran]. So we were able to stay really productive, even if it was tough being apart, and it was tough. But we don't have the toughest lives in the world. We're so lucky."

On working with Ed again in the future, he said: "I hope so. When Ed opened up for us originally, he used to come on every night and sing a song with us. I hope there's gonna be one where he'll come play with us, that would be a joy."
