After the fourth season of the hit Netflix show Stranger Things aired last month, fans have been looking forward to finding out what is next for the Hawkins gang.
Volume two of series four will be airing on 1 July and will be followed by a fifth and final season, and while no release date for this has been confirmed, it sounds like we will be waiting a while for it drop.
According to the show’s co-creator Ross Duffer, Stranger Things season 5 will feature a time jump to address the main stars’ advancing ages.
There was a three-year gap between filming seasons 3 and 4 of the series due to Covid-19, and although only 6 months are supposed to have passed in the Hawkins world, the characters have clearly grown up during that time.
Duffer revealed they want to keep things as realistic and linear as possible so that the character’s ages reflect the age of the actors playing them.
Speaking to TVLine he said: “I’m sure we will do a time jump. Ideally, we’d have shot [seasons 4 and 5] back to back, but there was just no feasible way to do that. So, these are all discussions we’re going to have with our writers when we start the room up.
“Believe it or not, we’re still working on season 4. We’re trying to finish the final two episodes, they’re so massive.”
Despite the delays around the release of season four, it was definitely worth it as the show smashed records upon its release last month.
It is also responsible for sending Kate Bush’s 1985 hit Running Up That Hill to number one on iTunes after it was featured in the show, and the singer has now earned her first Billboard Number One album for Hounds Of Love as a result.
Stranger Things is now available to stream on Netflix
