If you’ve spent any time at all scrolling through your social feeds of late, you might have seen pictures of some of your friends and family looking very cartoonish.

The likelihood is that they have downloaded an app called Voilà AI Artist, which uses an existing photo of a person and animates the image to make it look like something you’d see in a Pixar film.

Voilà AI Artist is a photo editing app which can be used on iOS and Android. Once it’s downloaded, the user can upload a pic of a face, or use the app to capture a pic of a face, and then the app does its thing. Users can select between 3D cartoon, 2d cartoon, caricatures and, if they are feeling high-brow, renaissance painting.

Users can either upload a photo of a face or capture a photo of a face using the app. Then, the app turns the photo into something that resembles a cartoon character. It has four modes: 3D cartoon, 2D cartoons, and caricatures. There are also a bunch of filters within each mode.

After creating your masterpiece, you can then share it on your socials, including Facebook and Instagram, or message it to your pals on WhatsApp. You can save it to your phone as well. And if you don’t want to cartoonify yourself, then the app also has a celeb image search, so you can muck about with famous people’s faces!

Voilà AI Artist is free to use, but as with many apps, the free version is ad-heavy. There is a paid version on both OS and Android.

And if you’re concerned about giving your data to the app, according to Pocket-Lint, “The app's parent company promises to delete your photos 24 to 48 hours after the photo was last used by the app, but that “Voila does collect personally identifying information, such as your phone and your activity online, to share with third-party partners and advertisers in your country.”
