Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne on the soap's 'emotional' final scene

It’s almost time to say goodbye to Neighbours, as the show’s final episode will air at the end of this month. However, although it will be sad to see the iconic soap finish after 37 years, we can at least look forward to a “joyful” ending, according to one of its stars. 

We already know that a host of former Neighbours, including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, will be back to see the show off, surely making it an unmissable television, and now Susan Kennedy herself has given a few hints about what we can expect as the sun sets on Erinsborough. 

Jackie Woodburne, who plays Susan, appeared on Lorraine alongside Alan Fletcher - who is Karl Kennedy on the soap. Speaking about narrating the last ever scene, Jackie said: “I cannot tell you how emotional it was.”

She added: “The challenge for all of us on that last episode was that the scene is a very joyful, happy scene but we were all feeling so emotional, a second away from tears the whole time.”

Talking to Carol Vorderman, who is standing in for Lorraine, Jackie continued: “It was a huge acting challenge to not bring our own sadness and emotional context into the scene. I was thrilled to be given that opportunity to narrate that last scene.”

And if you are going to miss power couple Karl and Susan, then you will at least get the chance to spend a bit more time with them, as Alan and Jackie will both be joining Neighbours: The Farewell Tour when it lands in the UK next year. 

With tickets for the original eight dates having sold out in a heartbeat, five more dates were added, and now another two additional shows have been announced. Pre-sale for these two dates - in Bath and London on 22nd and 23rd March 2023 - begins today (14th July) at 10am, and tickets will be on general sale from Friday 15th July.

The tour will bring back cast members, and will include a Q&A. Alan told Carol: “I have been incredibly moved by the outpouring of love and support from fans as their favourite TV show is ending its 37 year run. Which is why I am so excited to be involved in the farewell tour.”

Neighbours will end with a double-episode special on Channel 5 at 9pm on July 29th.
