A new dating app is matching people by the memes they like

If you're tired of being matched on dating apps by conventional means, we have good news! A new dating app is matching potential compatible lovers through the memes they like.

Named 'Schmooze’, the new app invites users to ‘swipe on memes, not people’, says Business of Business, subsequently pairing people up based on their sense of humour.

27-year-old creator Vidya Madhavan, first got the idea of Schmooze when working as an analyst in India, while debating whether to attend grad school in California, according to TechCrunch+.

Madhavan cold emailed 10 people she found on LinkedIn who attended business school for their advice. One replied. They began sharing jokes. They laughed. A lot. Vidya married him. It's humour she says that reveals the potential for lasting love, not whether someone has, y'know, a nice face.

Vidya told The Daily Free Press: “Every generation has its own set of social and dating products. There was Facebook back in the day when eHarmony and match.com was the thing.

“Then came Instagram, which had Tinder, Bumble, Hinge as the user base. We want to be the dating app for the TikTok generation.”

She continued: ​​“I would love for everyone to give it a shot, because it’s a new concept. Hopefully we can surprise, amaze and excite people a lot more. The memes are getting more exciting.”

There's some sense to this. In a 2011 study published in the De Gruyter Mouton, researchers studied data collected from more than 3,000 married couples from five countries, and found that couples were happier if their partners made them laugh.
