The Wagatha Christie legal case will be the focus of a brand-new documentary on Disney+

The three-part WAG-focused factual series will take a deep dive into the libel case against Coleen Rooney made by Rebekah Vardy.

Vardy started legal proceedings after Rooney accused her of leaking private information to the press via her Instagram account back in 2019. After doing her own detective work, Rooney had concluded that Vardy was using her private social media to find information, and was passing that info onto the media.

Vardy then lost the libel trial against Rooney in July, in which the court found that Rooney’s accusation, and now infamous Instagram post labelling the fellow footballer's wife as the culprit of the leaks, was “substantially true.”

According to Deadline, the gripping docu-series, produced by Lorton Entertainment and Dorothy Street Pictures, will be part of Disney+’s plans to make 60 local productions by 2024 in a bid to produce more content across Europe and expand the viewership around the world.

Rooney will be telling her side of the story in the documentary, which is said to have been won by Disney through a bidding war against Netflix, Amazon Prime and Discovery.

Sean Doyle, Disney+ director of unscripted content, revealed the news at the Edinbugh TV Festival (as reported by Metro), and said the streamer will have “exclusive access” to Rooney for the series, currently under the working title of Wagatha Christie.

In a press release, Disney said: “Uncovering one of the biggest tabloid news stories in Britain for the last decade, it reveals how Coleen turned amateur online sleuth to find an explanation for why private stories concerning herself and her family continued to appear in the media.

“The three-part series will take viewers from the circumstances that led to her infamous Instagram post that “broke the Internet” all the way to Coleen being a successful defendant in one of the UK’s highest-profile High Court defamation cases brought against her by Rebekah Vardy.”

Meanwhile, Channel 4 will be bringing out their own docu-drama series on the Wagatha Christie trial, called Vardy V Rooney: A Courtroom Drama.

This version will recreate scenes from the high-profile court case between the warring footballer’s wives and their husbands, Jamie Vardy and Wayne Rooney.

A release date for Disney+ series Wagatha Christie has yet to be announced.
