The Wizard Of Oz is undergoing a remake for the modern age.
It is being created by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, and it has been revealed the film will feature LGBTQ representation to reflect the current day.
Barris told Variety : "The original was an allegory and a reflection of the way the world was at the time with things like the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl,”
"Now we’re going to turn a mirror on where we’re at right now and take disparate characters from the LGBTQ community, from different cultural communities and socioeconomic communities, and tell a story that reflects the world.”
"I think this is the best time to do that.” Barris said.
He confessed: “I’m nervous. Hopefully, my movie can last as long as the original does. [Laughs] Hopefully my movie comes out.”
As of now, no synopsis or cast has been announced.
Barris has also said the new version will be racially diverse.
It isn't the only Wizard of Oz project in the works, as the broadway stage show Wicked is heading to our screens too.
Cynthia Erivo will star as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda; and Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey will also star.
Shooting is scheduled to start in the next few months.
