Jamie Lee Curtis has paid an emotional tribute to her iconic character Laurie Strode ahead of the release of Halloween Ends.

Due to premiere this week (14th October), the latest film in the horror franchise will be the final showdown for Laurie Strode (Jamie) and the serial killer Michael Myers, who has haunted her for decades.

The actress appeared at the New York Comic-Con to talk about Halloween Ends with host Drew Barrymore on Saturday (8th October), and things got emotional.

As she walked out on stage, Jamie was greeted with a thundering applause from the audience, which caused her to break down in tears.

When she had composed herself, she told the crowd: “I don’t take any of this for granted. You just have to understand this is overwhelming. I appreciate your support very, very much but it’s all overwhelming for me.”

During her interview with Barrymore, Jamie reflected on when she saw the first film upon its release in 1978 and the advice director John Carpenter had given her on playing the character.

She said: “I went into a theater in Hollywood, a late-night theater. It was a packed house. In a pin silent theater, a woman in the middle stood up and went, ‘Don’t go in there! There is a killer in that house!’ It was like the moment they [the audience] were released…”

She added: “The whole theater started the audience participation that we now know is a horror movie experience. That’s what he [Carpenter] meant, he wanted her to be vulnerable, so you cared about her and you didn’t want her to get hurt.

“And you guys haven’t wanted me to get hurt for 44 years.”

Halloween Ends marks the 13th film in the franchise since it premiered in 1978 and the recent trailer gives no hints about who will be the one walking away from Laurie and Michael’s showdown.

At the end of the interview, Jamie became emotional again as she spoke of the character and admitted: “I don’t have anything in my life without Laurie Strode. Nothing. I would not have a career, I would not have a family. Everything comes from you loving her.”

Halloween Ends will be released in cinemas and on Peacock on 14th October.
