He’s winning hearts with his dance moves on the current series of Strictly Come Dancing, but it turns out that, in the real world, Hamza Yassin is struggling to find love.
The wildlife TV presenter may very well be one of the favourites to take home the glitterball trophy in the hit BBC dancing competition but, when it comes to matters of the heart, it seems that he isn’t at the top of the leader board. And the reasons, simply, are his location and his job.
You see, the TV star - who is perhaps best known for his role as Ranger Hamza on CBeebies - lives a pretty remote life. To illustrate this, in an interview with The Guardian, he has explained that his closest shopping town is a good two-and-a-half hours away.
He also spoke about the nature of his work causing issues with romance. "My job doesn't really allow for a relationship,” he admitted. “How can you sustain a relationship, like: 'I’m sending you a text message from a satellite phone, because I’m in the Arctic for two months.'”
The presenter and cameraman added: "It’s more of a job kind of problem, rather than a place, though the place definitely adds to it."
However, at least starring on a prime-time TV show seems to have helped give him some dating options, as he told The Guardian that lots of Strictly fans have sent him messages asking him for a date!
And, if you’re worried about Hamza being lonely, then there’s no need. “I do feel isolated on probably one day a year when I’m just having a down day,” he said. “But most of the time I am surrounded by people who I love.”
This weekend on the dancing competition, Hamza and his professional dance partner Jowita Pryzstal will be dancing their couple's choice to Jerusalema - Remix by Master KG feat. Burna Boy and Nomcebo Zikode.
As well as opening up about his love life, the star also recently explained why he hasn’t cut his hair for 17 years.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday 12th November on BBC One.
