There’s a new festive film out now, starring Ryan Reynolds. No, it’s not a Deadpool Christmas movie, but it turns out that the Hollywood star has written one, and maybe it will see the light of day at some point.
Whilst Deadpool does dress in red, he doesn’t necessarily seem like your traditional Christmas hero. However, the actor that portrays him has revealed that, a few years back, he penned a script for a festive film. The film, sadly, seemed to get forgotten about when Disney acquired Fox.
Speaking to Big Issue about the release of his new Christmas film Spirited, Reynolds explained that he wrote the festive antihero flick with his Deadpool co-writers. "I would love to see a song and dance number in a Deadpool movie. Four years ago, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool,” he said.
“It got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made," the actor continued.
However, that’s not to say it won’t get made at some point. “Maybe one day we'll get to make that movie,” he said. “It's not a musical, but it's a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day."
While we wait for what would surely become an instant holiday classic, we can at least enjoy the Welcome to Wrexham star in a new festive film. And he is appearing next to a legend of Christmas comedy.
Spirited stars Reynolds and Will Ferrell, and is a reimagining of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol. In it, the Deadpool actor plays a character - PR executive Clint Briggs - based on Ebeneezer Scrooge. Elf legend Ferrell plays the Ghost of Christmas Present.
The official synopsis reads: "Each Christmas Eve, the Ghost of Christmas Present selects one dark soul to be reformed by a visit from three spirits.
"But this season, he picked the wrong Scrooge. Clint Briggs turns the tables on his ghostly host until Present finds himself re-examining his own past, present and future.
"For the first time, A Christmas Carol is told from the perspective of the ghosts in this hilarious musical twist on the classic Dickens tale."
