Last month, we got to see the first trailer for the new Super Mario Bros. Movie, and were introduced to Chris Pratt’s Mario and Jack Black’s Bowser. Now, a second trailer has landed, introducing us to more of the characters and the world they inhabit - including Rainbow Road.

The trailer begins by showing us Mario fighting Donkey Kong. Or rather, getting well and truly duffed up by Donkey Kong, who is voiced by Seth Rogan.

Then we see Bowser quizzing Luigi, meaning we get to hear Charlie Day voicing the latter for the first time, and we are introduced to Princess Peach, played by The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy.

“Bowser is coming,” she says. “Together we are going to stop that monster.”

Later in the clip, the Princess tells Mario: “There’s a huge universe out there, with a lot of galaxies, and they’re all counting on us. No pressure.”

Also in the trailer, we see Mushroom Kingdom and, excitingly, we get a glimpse of some kind of Mario Kart race, which takes place on the iconic Rainbow Road.

The new film will also feature Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen voicing Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

The movie is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and is written by Matthew Fogel, who has worked on The Lego Movie 2 and Minions: The Rise Of Gru.

Last month’s first trailer showed baddie Bowser, his fiery castle, and his army of Koopa Troopas descending upon an ice kingdom of blue penguins, and gave us a first look at the titular Italian plumber, as he bounced off some iconic red and white mushrooms.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set for release on 7th April 2023.
