It's all change for TV's traditional Christmas Day speeches. While King Charles will deliver his first ever speech as Head of State, Channel 4's annual broadcast is set to run after his debut message at 3pm and will be generated by artificial intelligence.

One of the world’s most advanced robots, Ameca, will reflect on the past year 2022 and will also 'respond to questions about humans'. It's thought she will be 'neither happy nor sad’ and ‘take it as a learning opportunity, a chance to change the way we think about the world and a reminder to help those in need whenever we can'.

Channel 4’s chief content officer, Ian Katz, explained: "As we look to a future in which Artificial Intelligence is set to have an increasingly prominent role in our lives, Ameca’s Alternative Christmas Message is a vivid illustration of both the power and limitations of this technology.

"Despite Ameca’s remarkably lifelike facial expressions, I suspect most viewers will come away reassured that humans are not about to be displaced by AI robots any time soon."

Historian and author Jeremy Archer told OK! magazine about the King's upcoming speech: "He’ll talk about how positive she [the Queen] was and how inclusive she was. It will be solemn and reflective, but it will show gratitude for her reign, her life and all the things she’s achieved."

In Queen Elizabeth II's final Christmas Day speech in 2021, she reflected: "Although it’s a time of great happiness and good cheer for many, Christmas can be hard for those who have lost loved ones. This year, especially, I understand why.

"But for me, in the months since the death of my beloved Philip, I have drawn great comfort from the warmth and affection of the many tributes to his life and work – from around the country, the Commonwealth and the world… and as much as I and my family miss him, I know he would want us to enjoy Christmas."

Channel 4’s Alternative Christmas Message will air on Christmas Day at 5.25pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
