The Last of Us fans say TV show is even better than the iconic video game after just one episode

The Last of Us fans have been raving about the new HBO TV series which has captured the imagination of lovers of the original 2013 Playstation video game. The much-anticipated adaptation from the acclaimed game of the same name has premiered on Sky Atlantic and has already gained a legion of new admirers.

The synopsis reads: "Joel, a grizzled survivor of a dangerous post pandemic world, who has slowly lost his sense of morality after the loss of his daughter, and Ellie, a young girl with her own struggle to find real human connection, are forced together and must travel across the U.S. in search of a feint hope for the future of humanity.

Viewers wrote online following the first instalment: "The Last of Us TV show might actually be better than the game."

A second added: “The Last of Us show is gonna be better than the games.”

"30 Minutes into Last of Us show and dare I say better than the game so far...?” agreed a third.

Another fan wrote: “Really enjoyed ep 1 of The Last of Us. Think they did an even better job than the game with that opening sequence. Loved the little changes they made and the extra character development.”

It has also racked up an impressive 99% score on ratings site Rotten Tomatoes for being the highest ever score from a live-action video game adaptation.

The BBC praised the nine-part adaptation and wrote: "For fans of the game, it is an adaptation of the utmost skill and reverence, yet one still capable of surprise; for people who have never picked up a controller, it is an encapsulation of the game's heart and soul – its full-blooded characters, its neat plotting, its mature themes of love and loss."
