Netflix has announced that Cobra Kai will be coming back for series six, but that season will be its last.
The sequel spin-off takes place 30 years after the events of the first Karate Kid film all the way back in 1984, which saw a young Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio, take on his bullies in the All Valley Karate Tournament.
Both Ralph and Johnny Lawrence, played by William Zabka, made their return, and the series followed their unity in taking down Terry Silver, once again portrayed by Thomas Ian Griffith, who takes over the Cobra Kai dojo in the most recent series.
Confirming the news via a letter posted to Twitter, the series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg insisted to fans that while it might be the last, series six will be “the biggest and baddest” yet.
The letter read: “Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honour.
"Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members.
"It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.”
They went on to say that they wanted to end the show “on our terms,” and praised the loyal fanbase, or Miyagiverse, for being “the best on the planet.”
It might not be the last time the fans are treated to some Karate Kid stories, as the trio also said they hope to bring more “down the line, because as we all know, Cobra Kai never dies.”
The letter was accompanied by a montage clip of some of the most dramatic moments of the series so far, and it includes Johnny asking: “Do you have one more fight left in you?”
Series one to five of Cobra Kai available to watch now on Netflix.
