Everything Everywhere All at Once was the big winner at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, suggesting that the movie is a serious frontrunner for next month’s Oscars.

The A24 film stars Michelle Yeoh as a seemingly ordinary Chinese-American woman who runs a struggling laundromat with her husband. However, she soon discovers that she is the only person who can save the multiverse when an interdimensional rupture unravels reality.

At Sunday night’s (26th February) ceremony in Los Angeles, Everything Everywhere All at Once picked up four major awards, and broke the record for most wins for a single film.

The dimension-hopping movie picked up the night’s biggest award, for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, as well as Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for Michelle Yeoh, and both supporting actor awards, for Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan.

When Yeoh, who was born and raised in Malaysia, accepted her award, she said: “This is not just for me. This is for every little girl that looks like me... Thank you for giving me a seat at the table.”

The SAG film winners are chosen by over 120,000 members of Hollywood’s acting union. Brendan Fraser was recognised as Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role, and Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture went to Top Gun: Maverick.

In the TV categories, the cast of The White Lotus won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, while Jennifer Coolidge won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series

Jason Bateman’s performance as Marty Byrde in Ozark earned him the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, while The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.

Jean Smart from Hacks picked up Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series went to Abbott Elementary.

Elsewhere, Sam Elliott was selected as the outstanding actor in a television movie or limited series for 1883, and Sally Field was the recipient of the life achievement award.
