The new - and final - season of Succession is coming this month, and a full-length trailer has just landed, suggesting that the series is set to come to an explosive end.
Succession’s creator and showrunner, Jesse Armstrong, recently revealed that season four of the hit HBO/Sky show will be the last. And, if the new trailer is anything to go by, the show is going out with a bang.
Season four will pick up the pieces from the dramatic conclusion to season three, in which Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) told family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) about his kids’ plot against him.
With Logan now having the upper hand in his attempt to sanction the sale of Waystar Royco to Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård), and with Shiv (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) between a rock and hard place, an intense family battle is coming.
The thrilling new trailer starts with Logan annoyed that everyone keeps asking how he feels. “I got done a huge deal. I got the election, I got ATN. I got plenty on my plate,” he says. We then see him “terrifyingly moseying,” according to Greg (Nicholas Braun), like if “Santa Claus was a hitman.”
The trailer also shows Kendall, Roman and Shiv’s attempts to gang up with Logan’s rivals - “death wrestling ogres”, in the hope of scuppering his deal with Matsson.
Elsewhere in the clip, Connor Roy (Alan Ruck) is running for President, winning a whopping one percent vote.
Intriguingly, Logan tells Roman: “I need you.” And he later tells his other offspring: I love you, but you are not serious people.”

Upon announcing that the satirical family comedy-drama is coming to an end at the conclusion of season four, he told The New Yorker: “You know, there’s a promise in the title of Succession. I’ve never thought this could go on forever. The end has always been kind of present in my mind. From Season 2, I’ve been trying to think: Is it the next one, or the one after that, or is it the one after that?”
The Peep Show co-creator added that, while Succession could “do a couple of short seasons, or two more seasons” or “go on for ages and turn the show into something rather different”, he said that his preference was always to “do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong.”
Succession will air on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK from 27th March.
