Sir Michael Caine celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this week, and some big names turned up for his dinner party.

Two-time Oscar-winner Sir Michael was joined by friends for a gathering at The River Cafe in Hammersmith, London. On the guestlist was Tom Cruise, who starred with him in the 2002 Austin Powers film Goldmember.

As well as the Mission: Impossible star, other guests included David Walliams and Loose Women’s Denise Welch. The Little Britain legend posted some photos of the star-studded night on his Instagram page, including a picture of the Italian Job actor with the birthday boy, and all three of the stars together.

Denise Welch was also there, and posted a clip of her making the other guests crack up with a story.

She captioned the post: “Such an honour to be asked by [Michael’s wife] Shakira to say a few words at Sir Michael Caines’ 90th birthday!!! He loves a dirty joke and so does @tomcruise it appears!!!! Great night and amazing company @nctopsy @therivercafelondon.”

Sir Michael’s 90th birthday was on Tuesday (14th March). In his glittering career, he has appeared in classic movies such as The Italian Job, The Ipcress File, Alfie, Get Carter, The Dark Knight and The Muppet Christmas Carol, to name just a tiny section of his amazing portfolio.

And he has a new film coming out later this year. The Great Escaper will see the cockney icon star alongside Glenda Jackson in a story which is based on the true story of a Second World War veteran who escapes from his nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

The film will mark the duo's first acting project together in nearly half-a-decade, after they starred in The Romantic Englishwoman back in 1975.
