The closing episode of the first season of The Last of Us aired this week, and some eagle-eyed fans spotted something they think might play a part in season two.

If you’ve seen the season finale of the HBO/Sky drama (and if you haven’t seen it yet then stop reading right now!), you’ll know that the episode opened with a pregnant woman running through the woods, clearly trying to escape from someone or something.

She makes it to an empty farmhouse, where it becomes clear that he is being hunted by an infected. She gives birth while being attached, and gets bitten.

It turns out that this is the backstory to Ellie’s birth, and gives an insight into possibly how she became immune.

Incidentally, Ellie’s mother was played by Ashley Johnson, who voiced Ellie in the video game.

However, that’s not the only thing that fans noticed about Monday’s episode. Several people who have played the game have taken to social media to share a possible Easter egg that they noticed. Namely, regarding the house that Ellie’s mum ran to.

There is a very small season two spoiler ahead.

The farmhouse that featured in season one, episode nine, looks quite a lot like the house in the second game (and presumably the second season of the TV series) where Ellie and Dina (a character who will be introduced in season two) stay.

One commenter wrote: “Anna giving birth in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere with a tractor sitting outside is very much foreshadowing dina and ellie farmhouse season 2.”

Another added: “Wait a minute this place looks like ellie and dina’s farmhouse from tlou2!!!”

Someone else wrote: “So glad someone mentioned it!😄 I thought I was the only one that noticed the similarities.😅”

Whilst we have a while to wait before we can see season two of the hit post-apocalypse series, we can at least enjoy a bonus, behind-the-scenes episode

Season one of The Last of Us is available to watch now on Sky and NOW.
