There are people who’ve seen a UFO by accident and there are UFO spotters who go out of their way to find the strange and lightning quick objects nicknamed ‘Foo Fighters’ by US Air Force pilots.

This is, of course, where Dave Grohl’s band get their name and officers in three Southern states of the US have had close encounters with the same one recently, a classic silver saucer, with a spherical glass dome roof, but this one was travelling down the interstate, piloted by Steve Anderson, a UFO nut who built this brilliant Foo Fighter and who’s been stopped and pulled over by the rozzers three times on his way to Roswell New Mexico for an annual UFO fan-festival near the famous Area 51.

Each time, the police turned a blind eye to the minor infringements, wrong licence plate, no wing mirrors or whatever - I mean this thing would not have a hope in hell of getting through an MOT here - but to their credit they all took it in good spirits and let him crack on to Roswell, after taking selfies for their Facebook pages of course!

Have a look at a couple of them here, Steve is hilarious.

We know carrots are good for us but did you know it’s mostly because of phytonutrients called carotenoids?

They are the red, yellow or orange pigment in a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Their presence in our skin can be measured easily and are a great indicator of how many good plants we are consuming and absorbing.

A team of researchers at Samford University in Alabama have been studying how we can increase the carotenoids in our skin. Higher levels of skin carotenoids are linked to increased antioxidant protection, and a lower risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and some cancers. This marker also reflects improved skin health and immune function.

They split their subjects into groups who took either a few baby carrots on their own, baby carrots with a multivitamin which contained beta carotene and those who took the multi vitamin on its own. They had another control group who just had slices of Granny Smiths apple.

Interestingly the carotenoid levels of those who took the apple and the multivitamin on its own didn’t change. Those who ate a few baby carrots as a snack three times a week showed a 10.8% increase and those who ate the carrot snack and the multivitamin leapt to 21.6%. So the fresh carotenoids and the man made ones helped each other out!
