Fans of traditional Italian dishes should look way now, as culinary experts are slating the new addition to the Heinz range of tins.

Tinned spaghetti seems the norm now, but people are appalled by the announcement of canned spaghetti carbonara from Heinz.

It's the first new creation in the pasta range for almost a decade.

Chefs and Heinz customers alike have been questioning the logic of this idea (as well as the ingredients).

The new flavour will be on shelves in September, and will set you back around £2 a tin. Bargain!

Alessandra de Dreuille is Meals Director at Kraft Heinz, in a statement she said: "We understand that people are looking for convenient meals that are effortless to prepare, and our new Spaghetti Carbonara delivers just that."

"It’s the perfect solution for a quick and satisfying meal at home. Whether enjoyed as a comforting meal after a long day or shared with friends whilst catching up on the latest TV series, Heinz Spaghetti Carbonara is the perfect fuss-free dinner solution."

Critics are not impressed.

A traditional carbonara does not involve cream, and many Italians are screaming at this version of their much-loved dish.

One social media user called it "an abomination."

"If, ladies and gentlemen you want to know what pastiche is, this Heinz abomination is pastiche," they wrote, adding: "Italians. We apologise."

Another called it "the end of days", stressing that a real carbonara takes "five mins to make, does not require cream but pasta water, [and] is cheap & delicious."

One wannabe chef joked: "I imagine this will be way worse than my try at it!"

Not everyone is dreading it though, with one Heinz fan writing: "My hubby loves Heinz tinned spaghetti (I never buy it though) and his fav meal is spaghetti carbonara."

"What’s that? Heinz with its first pasta launch in more than a decade? Carbonara in a tin. Obvs," added another.
