Trans activist Munroe Bergdorf joined thousands of others on a march through the streets of central London on Saturday (26th June) to demand equal rights for the trans, non-binary and intersex community.

Bergdorf, who also posted on Instagram to support the event, spoke in Soho Square, where she emphasised the importance of the trans community coming together, even considering the wonderful individuality and diversity of its members:

‘As different as we are as individuals, we are reflections of each other – inextricably linked and spiritually bonded by community.’

The route of the march, which is now in its third year, went from Wellington Arch to Soho Square, with crowds carrying placards and chanting slogans such as ‘trans rights are human rights’…

The event this year was particularly focussed on the rights of the black trans community, as well as the rights of trans and non-binary people in healthcare systems, many of which are still discriminatory.

Many of the marchers called for the legal recognition of non-binary people, and non-binary star and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK royalty Bimini Bon Boulash also tweeted their support for the event:

Hollyoaks actor Ki Griffin, who plays non-binary character Ripley Lennox in the soap also spoke, reflecting on the importance of recognising intersex people, and on their joy at the unveiling of the redesigned Progress Pride Flag, which features a yellow triangle with a purple circle to represent the intersex community.
