Anyone with young children will know the fear of their young darling being armed with a colouring pen. Take your eye off them for two seconds, and before you know it you’ve got a brand new mural on your previously white walls! Nightmare, right?

Well, a TikTok mum reckons she has found a solution to this problem, and it doesn’t involve repainting the inside of your house or banning all colouring pens, marker pens and crayons from the house. In fact, it’s pretty much as simple as going to your bathroom and grabbing a tube of toothpaste.

The TikTok user called Jessica Sedgewick, who posts using the handle @leighsphotogrpahy09, uploaded a short clip on the social media platform, which shows what appears to be the side of a white desk or unit absolutely covered in the kind of infant scrawlings that parents will be all too familiar with.

Jessica, who describes herself on her TikTok profile as “Mummy to a princess”, captioned the video: “Toothpaste takes sharpie (markers) off things - tip for mums with monkey toddlers!”

Holding up a tube of toothpaste, the mum simply puts some of it over her child’s artwork, and then wipes it clean with a paper towel, with seemingly very little effort or struggle. Hey presto, the video ends with the daubings completely gone.

In other cleaning news, a TikTok user recently shared a wooden spoon cleaning hack, the results of which left people absolutely horrified.

Elsewhere, a savvy dad has posted the savage note he writes to his kids to make sure that they do the housework. It’s guaranteed to work every time!
