It's impressive but also shocking how much was retrieved.

A YouTuber has crafted a beautiful guitar from plastic retrieved from the ocean, after teaming up with an organisation that wants to end the plastic crisis.

This is no ordinary guitar, YouTuber Burls Art crafted an electric guitar made solely of plastic waste.

To start, he joined 4ocean on a diving trip in South Florida to find plastic that would be suitable to use.

He then took the plastic back to his warehouse, melted it down and forged it into a large workable block to begin work with.

He tried to make the neck of the guitar using plastic and epoxy resin, but it kept splitting due to weak points in the bonds.

His next idea was more successful, as he used plastic straws filled with epoxy resin as the guitar’s neck material.

When he tried to add the frets for the second time, he used a blowtorch to heat them up before adding them to the neck.

The heated frets then melted into the epoxy in the neck when they are fitted.

To finish things off, he added a pair of pickups: a humbucker in the bridge position and a single coil in the neck.

The end result is a stunning, one-of-a-kind instrument that also raises awareness of just how much plastic is found in the ocean.
