The Emperor's new Chrome, anyone? Google has given its infamous branding a new look for 2022 - but can you even tell?

People are clocking that the new Google Chrome logo looks almost identical to the previous one with its red, yellow and green border with a blue circle.

Squint and you can see the slight difference. Or can you? The circle is a bit bigger while the borders around the edge are slighter.

One person wrote online: "A logo change that is hardly noticeable."

Another user commented: "Google has updated the Chrome logo. The world is, again, (mostly) flat. I miss skeuomorphism. But, not really."

A third joked: "Google Chrome's logo and my weight have the same change rate."

Another quipped: "Good lord someone gets paid to design this stuff."

Chrome designer Elvin Hu replied: "After eight years, the Google Chrome browser has updated its logo recently. The new icons will start to appear across your devices soon."

"We created OS-specific customisations," explained Hu.

"We want the icons to feel recognisably Chrome, but also well crafted for each OS. For example, on Windows, the icons take on an obviously gradated look, appearing at home on Windows 10 & 11."

And while Google did consider a swanky new makeover trying something 'different’, they decided to stick with what they know.

What do you think?
