The singer has been given planning permission to put a crypt under the floor of his private chapel on the grounds of his estate in Suffolk.
He built the chapel after getting permission for the “private place of retreat for contemplation and prayer” back in 2019 and recently submitted another application to build a crypt underneath it.
These plans have now been given the green light.
A crypt is a stone chamber beneath the floor of a church that typically contained coffins, tombs, or religious relics, although it is not known what Ed will be using his for.
After deciding to approve the application, East Suffolk Council said: “It is noted that the revised plans include an area identified as ‘burial zone’.
“Whilst this was not included within the original permission, it is considered that the creation of any ‘void’ beneath the building could have been created through the formation of the foundations for the building, without resulting in a separate engineering operation, and any penetration through the existing slab floor after construction would not be considered development.”

According to the plans, the crypt will be around 1.8 metres by 2.7 metres and, as stated in the planning application for the chapel in 2019, will be made for guests to visit.
It stated: “Many of these people are from many countries, faiths and customs, including for example the USA, Ireland, Ghana, Nigeria, Asia and Australia.
“Thus, the applicant seeks to provide a space in which, he, his family and these different people can retreat for contemplation, prayer and relaxation, to meet, celebrate and meditate in peace and safety from disturbance, when they visit.”
The chapel will apparently include a spiral star tower, stained glass windows and a lead roof.
Sheeran has come under criticism in recent years for his home renovation plans after neighbours complained his wildlife pond was actually a swimming pool.
This was proved to be false, but it will be interesting to hear what they think of his latest plans.
