British man’s hilarious reaction to his girlfriend making a cup of tea the ‘American way’

If there is one thing that we Brits pride ourselves on, it’s how to make a mean cup of tea.

Some people have slightly different methods, like whether to put your milk in first or the hot water, but most are in agreement that a kettle is used.

Well, that’s not always the case in America.

When two-time Dancing On Ice champion Alex Murphy decided to make her British boyfriend a cup of tea the ‘American’ way, he found out just how different their brew is to ours.

In a video posted to TikTok, Murphy begins by placing a teabag into a mug (so far, so good). However, she then fills it with tap water and adds quite a lot of milk- not a kettle in sight.

The worst part is she then puts the mug in the microwave to warm it up.

Yes, you read that right.

Of course, Alex’s boyfriend can immediately tell by the taste of the tea that it has not been made the British way, and his reaction is pretty hilarious.

After a sip, he grimaces and asks: “What is that? That is disgusting.”

He adds: “I don’t mean to be rude. I feel like I’m being really rude, but that is not a cup of tea.”

Giggling, Alex tells him she made it the American way and put the cup in the microwave instead of using a kettle, and, of course, this sparks quite the reaction out of him- as it would for all British people.

He says: “You’re having a laugh.”

So disgusted by it, he throws the mug onto the floor, which might be a tad overdramatic, but we guess British people are just that passionate about their cup of tea.

Of course, fellow Brits took to the comments to share their horror at the method.

One person wrote: “No way, he should leave you at once.”

Whereas another said: “That was an appropriate response. The real red flag is how you made that tea.”

Even an American user joined in on the debate and wrote: “That’s not even the American way that’s just wrong, so very wrong.”

Last month, another American TikTok user made the mistake of posting a tutorial on how to make British tea.

It also involved a crazy method of putting all your ‘tea’ ingredients such as milk, sugar, water and a teabag straight into a kettle and then boiling it all together until ‘creamy’.

You can guess how people responded to that too.

Honestly, it can’t be that hard, can it?
