Wouldn't it be nice if speeding fines were a thing of the past? Now, new 'Geofencing' technology could be on the way to automatically slow your car down and make speed limit signs redundant.
Ford have explained that Geofencing could make streets ‘simpler, safer and easier on the eye’, and also save us a pretty penny or two using ‘geofencing’ technology creates a virtual area where vehicles slow down'.
How does it work? Speeding information will flash up on the dashboard display, then your vehicle will automatically reduce speed. The driver will be able to 'override the system to deactivate the speed limit control at any time'.
“As well as potentially making streets safer for other road users and pedestrians, Ford’s Geofencing Speed Limit Control system could help drivers avoid inadvertently incurring speeding fines and improve roadside appearances,” Ford said in the press release.
Ford’s Geofencing Speed Limit Control system 'could enable drivers to set their own geofencing zones at speeds as low as 20km/h, including at depots and private facilities’, taking into account factors such as ‘local hazards, temporary road works and the time of day’.
Michael Huynh, manager of City Engagement Germany at Ford of Europe, said: “Connected vehicle technology has the proven potential to help make everyday driving easier and safer to benefit everyone, not just the person behind the wheel.
“Geofencing can ensure speeds are reduced where – and even when – necessary to help improve safety and create a more pleasant environment.”
