Everyone is different, with some of us washing our hair daily and others once a week.

Experts have revealed the ideal amount of times a week we should be scrubbing our locks.

It turns out that many of us might be washing it far too much.

Tyla asked several hair experts what would be best.

Rosie Myers is the founder of the shampoo and conditioner bars specialist nope.

She said: “Through evolution, your scalp has developed its own ecosystem to take care of itself.

“If you over-wash you will strip your hair of its natural nutrients and oils resulting in dryness and dandruff.”

Neil Capstick is a professional hair industry expert and says you should only wash your hair ‘when it’s absolutely necessary'.

He said this is two-to-three times a week for most hair types.

Neil added: “Really, you should only wash your hair when it’s absolutely necessary. For most people, this will be two-to-three times per week, but some people can get away with less and others will need more.”

Stacey Whyte is the creative director at Cheveux Salon in Loanhead, Scotland.

Se says : “This depends on the individual and their hair type. If you are shampooing your hair every day you are stripping away the essential oils your scalp produces to keep your hair and scalp healthy.

“When this happens your scalp can overproduce oils to compensate for this, leading to your hair needing that wash. But take the time to ‘train’ it and the oil production will slow to what your hair needs.”

Neil added: "You can tell if your hair needs washing simply by sight and feel; if it still feels soft and bouncy, it’s likely it won’t need a wash. If it’s visibly oily then it probably needs a wash.”

Have you been over or under washing?
