Tesco has revealed their self-checkout machines will be getting a brand-new voice in a video posted to their social media.

On their TikTok, the supermarket uploaded a video of eyes and mouth superimposed over an image of their checkout machines and went through some of the entries in their competition to become the new voice of the till.

Before being replaced in 2015, EastEnders actor Helena Breck used to be the voice of the machines, and Tesco decided to find someone new, but this time asked invited members of the public to apply.

Not only does the lucky winner get to be the new voice of the self-service checkouts, but they will also get 10,000 Clubcard points- which is the equivalent of around £100 worth of shopping.

The winner was announced as TikToker Izzy, who goes by the name of @dogtor_who on the app.

Taking to the platform to thank everyone for their entries, Tesco said: “Choosing a winner hasn’t been easy, but the new voice of Tesco checkouts is…”

After a dramatic drum roll, Izzy was revealed as the winner and gave us a taste of what the new checkouts will sound like by delivering the lines: “Attention, new voice in bagging area”.

Izzy said she only entered the competition because her friends had convinced her to after she had posted a series of videos impersonating the checkouts.

It won’t be a permanent change and Izzy reckons she won’t even last a week as the new voice, but she’s just happy to be there “for the funsies”.

Earlier in the month, Tesco also revealed their Christmas advert for 2022 and it’s all about bringing back joy with their festive range.

The advert is styled like a political broadcast with Tesco standing as ‘The Christmas Party’ who are pledging “more pigs in more blankets for more people” and promise “the only thing we’ll cut are prices…and cake.”
