Scouting For Girls performed an amazing four song set live on Virgin Radio this Friday morning (13th October).

Joining Chris Evans on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch to discuss their new album The Place We Used To Meet and their upcoming tour, the band treated listeners to several of their hits plus a Whitney Houston cover.

Between their performances of Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, their 2007 iconic track ‘She’s So Lovely’, their new single ‘Glow’ and their 2010 number one ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’, the band also sat down for a significant chat with Chris about the last four years which led to the creation of their new album.

Speaking about how The Place We Used To Meet came about, Scouting For Girls’ frontman Roy Stride opened up about his journey to sobriety over the last couple of years after realising in 2021 that he was struggling with alcoholism and anxiety.

“We had a big long tour after Covid which was a bit of a nightmare,” Roy said. “Things went a bit out of control, [so] I stopped drinking after that tour.”

“I wasn’t sure [what would happen] because the whole band thing had been wound up with drinking… it was like a 15 year stag do… and I was kind of worried about, like, would I want to do it anymore,” he continued.

But in the end, sobriety kept bringing Roy back to wanting to make more music with his mates.

Explaining the significance of their new album title, Roy concluded: “And we called it The Place Where We Used To Meet because I got back to that stage when I was a kid where it was all about music, and playing with Greg and Pete.”

On playing live without the influence of alcohol, the 44-year-old was again open about how he had been concerned about whether he’d still like the experience now that he was sober.

“[But] it’s the most beautiful thing, because now it’s just the music, and it’s just the connection with the fans,” he revealed.

As Chris reflected: “It’s the same vibe, but it’s constructive as opposed to destructive, and you come away better and stronger from every experience.”
