Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones has opened up about his late bandmate Stuart Cable and revealed he still dreams about the drummer “at least five times a week”.

Cable was one of the founding members of the Welsh band and remained their drummer from 1992 to 2003 before he tragically died in 2010 at just 40 years old.

Speaking on the I Never Thought It Would Happen podcast, Jones opened up about the bond he had with Cable. He explained the drummer was “like a big brother” to him and his death was a very “intense” time.

Jones continued: “Stuart turns up in my dreams.

“At least five times a week. It’s bizarre. Still to this day…yeah, it’s quite strange. I lived in number 54, he lived in 62. We were on the same street all out lives.

“He’d be playing drums up there, and I’d be playing guitar down there. We merged in my garage and then we took it to the youth club. He introduced me to a lot of music […] it was his big laugh that opened the door a few times.”

The singer added: “So, him dying at 40… I’d like to say it was a surprise but in many ways, it wasn’t because he was that kind of character. I don’t think he was ever going to get to be an old man.”

Kelly went on to explain how, on the surface, Cable was a funny guy but was probably battling his own insecurities underneath it all.

He said: "You don't realise that when you are young. It was quite hard. His son comes to our shows now and we were talking about that the other day, his son doesn't look like him but there are a few expressions... it's eerie. He was a great guy."

At the moment, Kelly is focusing on his new band Far From Saints, who will release their debut album later this year.
