From Rocket Man to Bohemian Rhapsody, there have been a few musical biopics on the big screen as of late.
There are some incredible stories to be told in the world of music, so it’s no wonder a lot of them are deserving of the movie treatment. So, here are the musicians we think deserve a biopic next.
The Welsh rockers have an interesting story to tell, from their start in the small mining town of Blackwood in 1986 where they formed while at Oakdale Comprehensive School. Disillusioned by Thatcherism and the poverty they were living in, Manic Street Preachers took their angst and turned it into music. Tragically, in 1995, guitarist Richey Edwards disappeared and approximately two weeks later his car was discovered close to the Severn Bridge, leading to fears that he had taken his own life.

There are very few bands with a story as dramatic but intriguing as Fleetwood Mac, so much so that it inspired the recent series Daisy Jones & The Six. There was also a TV movie called Don’t Stop released in 2009, but we think they deserve the big screen treatment with the affairs, betrayals and explosive arguments, but most importantly, incredible music.

First of all, can you imagine the costumes?! Secondly, Dolly’s tale is an inspirational one. The singer grew up with her parents and 11 siblings in a one-room shack in Tennessee and quickly discovered she had a gift. Not only did she go on to become one of the most famous and successful country musicians ever, she is an incredible philanthropist today, noted for her many charitable endeavours.

A Pink Floyd biopic would probably centre around the band’s most popular period that saw them flung into the world of psychedelic rock and create albums like Dark Side of the Moon and the iconic Rock Opera The Wall. Their early days are just as interesting thought, with the departure of founding member Syd Barrett and how that shaped their sound that we know and love today.

Debbie Harry has become the blueprint for many artists in recent times, with the likes of Lady Gaga, Lorde and Garbage citing her as an inspiration. She had a pretty interesting career before joining Blondie too, and was a Playboy Bunny at one point. Not to mention, that era of rock and new wave in the 80s would look amazing on the big screen.

There’s no doubt Mick Jagger has had an interesting life, from being the frontman of one of the most influential bands in modern history, to his many romantic endeavours and becoming a symbol of anti-establishment. Plus, we think a certain Mr. Styles would be ripe for the role of Jagger.
