Busted are joining forces with 90s legends Hanson to recreate their hit MMMBop.

The group, made up of Matt Willis, Charlie Simpson and James Bourne, are gearing up to celebrate their 20th anniversary with an arena tour and new greatest hits album, featuring a line-up of special guests.

Over the past week, Busted had been teasing a “big announcement” on social media and on Monday (22nd May), they finally dropped the news.

The band has teamed up with sibling trio Hanson to re-record a version of their hit 1997 song, MMMBop.

Taking to Twitter, the group shared a short clip of them singing a snippet of the chorus and revealed the new track would be out on Friday 26th May.

Fans of both Hanson and Busted took to the comments to share their excitement at the announcement, with one person writing: “OMG no way !!! This could be legendary”.

Another said: “Yes omg this is everything, MMMBop was my first ever single I bought, can’t wait to hear this 2.0 version”.

A third added: “This was not on my guess list!! Yeeesss!!”.

The Hanson brothers joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch last year and performed an acoustic version of their hit song live.

Speaking about writing MMMBop when they were teenagers, the trio told Chris: “We grew up listening to rock and roll and do-ups and singing groups. So we were making an early indie record, and we were actually working on a different song and kind of went, ‘Hey, let's come up with a background part with lots of oohs and ahhs’ and that little chorus was born out of that.

They continued: “At first, we thought it was like, ‘No, that’s too hooky, that’s too much.’ So it went to the side, and then about a couple of years later, we slowly started writing those verses and, you know, some things are just waiting to become.”
