Ringo Starr has admitted that the so-called ‘final’ Beatles song which is being made using AI should have already been released.

Speaking with AP News, the world famous drummer said “it should’ve been out already” in response to being questioned about when fans could expect to hear the new track.

While he didn’t give any suggestion as to when the actual release date would be, he did elaborate more on the track itself.

“This is the last track, ever, that you’ll get the four Beatles on the track. John, Paul, George and Ringo,” he explained.

AI is being used to separate John Lennon’s voice and George Harrison’s guitar playing from demo recordings that they made, and then put them together with new recordings which Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo have made.

Earlier this year, Starr made it clear that the song was therefore not using AI to create anything new, but rather just helping to create something final from existing recordings.

“It’s not down to AI… It’s not like we’re pretending anything. That is actually John’s voice, Paul’s voice and bass playing, George on rhythm guitar and me on drums,” he told Variety.

Paul McCartney also clarified on social media in June 2023 that the song would not be an AI invention.

“Can’t say too much at this stage but to be clear, nothing has been artificially or synthetically created. It’s all real and we all play on it,” he said, adding: “We cleaned up some existing recordings - a process which has gone on for years.”

As fans wait for more news on when this addition to The Beatles’ discography will be released, Starr’s fourth EP Rewind Forward will be out soon.

One of the tracks, ‘Feeling the Sunlight’, was written by McCartney, who Starr told AP News he “FaceTimes twice a month.”

Rewind Forward will be released on Friday, 13th October.
