James sat down with Virgin Radio’s Eddy Temple-Morris to chat about their new album, Yummy, which became their first studio album to hit the top of the charts, 42 years into their career..

The Manchester band celebrated their first ever official number one studio album in the UK at the weekend, as their 18th record, Yummy, hit number one on the first week of its release.

With the record having landed on Friday 12th April, Tim Booth, Jim Glennie and Chloe Alper from the band chatted to our own Eddy for a Sunday Special on Virgin Radio UK last night (21st April).

Before going into the individual tracks, they spoke about the album as a whole, with bassist and founding member Jim telling Eddy: “I think it’s something perhaps people don’t focus on so much nowadays, with the making of a record, is the thing as an entirety. It’s more like, ‘Where’s your focus track, and let's pour the energy into that.’ But we’re still old school in that respect, we want it to sound like an hour and a quarter’s worth of music that takes you on a journey, that connects, almost like a set list.”

He added: “It’s like a whole body of work. I think that’s still important to us.

Vocalist Tim said: “We’re an album band and we have occasional, accidental singles!”

While at the top of the tower, James also joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with webuyanycar to play a cracking live session and to talk about the album and upcoming tour.

Frontman Tim also spoke about the fact that the band have also released a deluxe edition of the new album, the 2nd CD of which is called Pudding.

He explained: “This album, Yummy, we had more demos that we thought could have gone on the album than we've ever had. So we've released a follow up to Yummy, called Pudding, which is all the extra bits that didn't make it.”
